Feedback sought for IRP draft report
October 08, 2009
CAMS is inviting stakeholder feedback on the draft report of the Independent Review Panel (IRP) – Historics. This draft is provided for Stakeholder feedback in accordance with the Terms of Reference published earlier this year and referenced as Appendix I in the draft report.

Following are key considerations in the IRP’s findings:
- Establishing a structure that can sustain a successful category of many years is crucial.
- Such a structure can be developed and applied to other categories by the Australian Motor Racing Commission and Historic Commission working together.
- Provides a structure that allows transition from contemporary to historic competition without the perceived barrier of proving a group as “uncompetitive”. This is a key distinction for a group that has been sustainable in Australian motor sport over a number of decades.
- Provides for recognition documentation at any period of a car’s competition history; not solely for introduction into the 5th category.
- Allows Race Meeting Promoters and Competitor Groups to structure Formula Ford competition to best suit their local requirements.
- Group Fc to formally be introduced into the 5th category in 2011, noting that this does not obligate Historic Race Meeting Promoters to conduct competition for Group Fc, nor does it remove the ability for Group Fc to be included in contemporary Formula Ford competition at a state level.
- No additional categories have been identified for possible introduction into the 5th category at this time. The IRP is of the view that the structure and processes recommended in the report, particularly the model for Management and Evolution, need to be developed and implemented by the respective Commissions.
This report has been reviewed and endorsed by both the Australian Motor Racing Commission and Australian Historic Motor Sport Commission. Stakeholder feedback is now sought to ensure that the principles and concepts outlined in the report are clearly understood, together with the opportunities it presents for future sustainability of Australian motor sport.
In accordance with the Terms of Reference for the IRP the final report is due to be considered by the CAMS Board in November 2009, hence any Stakeholder feedback is required by close of business Friday, 30 October 2009.
