The Rocket Allstars Racing Series provides a national series for the 10 “sportsman” categories in Groups 2, 3 and 4 run over six rounds annually between Perth in the west, and Mackay in the north. Through the Rocket Allstars Racing Series and the six Group 1 Australian Championships (for Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer, Top Alcohol, Top Bike, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle), ANDRA has provided drag racing with a solid national focus.

ANDRA Drag Racing has been recognised as the best in the world outside the United States. In 1994 ANDRA became a foundation member of the Drag Racing Commission of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), and enjoys a healthy relationship with drag racing bodies around the world.

Limited activities in the southern markets over the past 5 years have had an impact but the brand new world class venues in Sydney and Perth have generated unprecedented growth in these regions. With recent major upgrades to Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway and moves to deliver a new venue in Melbourne, the future of ANDRA Drag Racing is bright! Through the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA), Australian drag racing has shaken off its "larrikin" image. ANDRA Drag Racing is now a credible, popular form of motor sport. Maintaining and growing the sport’s popularity is a great challenge, and in view of their successes to date, it's one ANDRA is looking forward to.

There’s been some suggestion the first ever drag race took place in Australia in 1930, when a Mrs. J. Jones set an official time of 18.25 seconds for the standing start quarter-mile in her supercharged Alfa at Bondi Beach near Sydney...that predates the Americans by at least twenty years, but the only competition that day was against the clock. The sport emerged in Australia around 1960, with events held on airstrips and closed public roads, with the first Australian Nationals event run in 1965 at Riverside near Melbourne, close to where the West Gate Bridge now stands.

In 1973, seeking an identity of their own, drag racers involved in the Australian Street Rod Federation established ANDRA which was delegated by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) as the governing body of drag racing in Australia.

With the creation of ANDRA came a new system of classes which are outlined below.

Group 1 - This is the pinnacle of Drag Racing including categories such as Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer, Top Alcohol, Top Bike, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Bike.

Group 2 - The foundation division of Drag Racing with a variety of classes, brackets and handicaps being its core elements.

Group 3 - Introduced to cater for the overflow from Group 2, with a variety of categories using the method of "dial your own" handicap. This is where the Driver nominates the time that they will achieve. If they go below this time they are eliminated from the competition.

Group 4 - combines the excitement of the “heads-up”  (side by side) start with the accessibility of handicap competition, using the 9.90sec fixed index. Drivers must attain a time as close as possible to this fixed index, but at the same time ensuring that they don’t go below it.

Junior Dragster - The final component of the comprehensive ANDRA Championship Drag Racing schedule introduced in 1995, where future drivers face each other in half scale replicas of Top Fuel dragsters – the fastest racing cars on earth.
