Australian Classic Tarmac Championship

The Australian Classic Tarmac Championship is the preserve of classic pre 1982 race cars being for the first time introduced in a Championship.

With the advent of the regulations for tarmac rallies being standardised, this has allowed CAMS in conjunction with the organisers to progress to a point where the possibility of a Championship being established has finally become reality.

With the strength of tarmac rallying, 2009 saw this new Championship introduced, comprising of rounds to be held around Australia. The first round of the 2011 Championship was the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally on May 27th to 29th in S.A. The remaining round of the Championship was the Quit Targa West in Western Australia on the 25th to 28th August. The Championship is ultimately designed to boost the profile of Classic crews and increase their level of recognition, which has proved difficult in the past with the increasing number of modern cars competing in tarmac rallying.

Congratulations to the 2011 Outright ACTC Champions, Tolley Challis and Greg Flood!

Championship points are awarded from first to twentieth with trophies awarded to the first three outright finishers, driver and co-driver. The Championship will see close racing all the way on sealed fast tarmac roads against the clock, leaving small room for error.  Crews and spectators overall welcome an increased focus on the Classic cars, and there remains to be no doubt that the Classics are the often the crowd favourites with spectators. Classic cars running in the ACTC category will be the first to attack the stages, followed by the Modern Class entered in the rally.

The Championship will also accept entries from across the Tasman in New Zealand, with provision given to competitors to enter with a current and valid Trans-Tasman Visa (issued by Motorsport New Zealand), along with a current Motorsport New Zealand licence.

To be eligible, cars will need to comply with the CAMS Classic Tarmac Rally Technical Regulations and must be pre-1982.

Registration for vehicles fitting the specified criteria for the Modern and Classic championships will be automatic upon payment of the entry fee for each event. There will not be a separate championship registration fee.
