FAQ
Why does a COD cost so much?
The cost of a COD takes into account a number of factors, primarily being the amount of time the administration and committee spend verifying the information supplied on the application, and the cost of comparable documentation as issued by other ASN’s. A The process ensures only legitimate vehicles are able to obtain a COD, thus maintaining a high standard of authenticity for which CAMS is famous.
Why does a COD application take so long?
The usual timeframe for the processing of COD applications is 6 – 8 weeks. The application has to be checked for accuracy, and the history verified before a draft COD is created and circulated to the eligibility committee for comment. Once the committee reviews the draft and is satisfied that the history is sufficient and the specifications are correct, the COD and logbook will be issued.
A complete COD application that is correct in every detail should only take a few weeks to process. However, in cases where the eligibility committee have concerns regarding the history or specifications of the vehicle, these concerns will be relayed to the applicant. It can sometimes take a while for the committee to research and agree on the correct specification required for the COD to proceed, so this is why the processing time can sometimes be so lengthy.
I am researching my vehicle’s history for a COD, where can I find records of competition history?
You could try car clubs that specialise in your vehicle, as they quite often have a library or records of competition. You could also try your local library or the internet.
I want to restore an historic vehicle but I don’t want to start building it until I am sure it will be eligible for a COD, what should I do?
We suggest that you make contact with your local eligibility officer and discuss your intentions with them. They will be able to give you guidance on your restoration and may suggest that you apply to CAMS for an Approval in Principle. This will require a COD application to be submitted, along with payment of half the fee ($330), an outline of the ownership and competition history and submission of photos of the vehicle, or in the case of a special, drawings/sketches of the intended design of the bodywork of the vehicle.
