CAMS makes changes to simplify Club Motorkhanas

July 24, 2008

CAMS has revised its Motorkhana regulations in an effort to make organising and running Club and Multi-Club Motorkhanas easier.

Previously CAMS has required that a number of people be appointed as Essential Officials including a Clerk of the Course, a Secretary of the Meeting and a Chief Scrutineer. These people were unable to compete in the event. Recognising that this was causing problems for many clubs, CAMS has now revised the regulations for Club and Multi-Club Motorkhanas so that the only Essential Official required for these activities is a Clerk of the Course.

This coincides with the rationalisation and simplification of the event paperwork required for both pre and post event reporting, which will be launched shortly.

What does this mean?

The only Essential Official required for Club and Multi-Club Motorkhanas is the Clerk of the Course.

What about all the other roles?

The roles of Secretary of the Meeting, Chief Timekeeper and Chief Scrutineer can all be undertaken by the Clerk of the Course. If the Clerk of the Course wishes to delegate these roles to another person, they can do so providing the person has a minimum of a CAMS Trainee Officials License.

Can these people compete?

Under the new regulations the only official who cannot compete is the Clerk of the Course.

What about Stewards?

CAMS no longer requires Stewards at Club and Multi-Club Motorkhanas. Should any judicial matter arise at the event that cannot be handled by the Clerk of the Course, it can be referred to a stewards hearing post event.

What if we want to have Stewards at our event?

The new regulations only set the minimum standard. Therefore, it is the club’s choice to continue using stewards at these events or not.

What if an event organiser needs assistance during an event?

A CAMS contact number will be provided for each organiser in case they need advice or assistance dealing with a problem that may occur during an event.

We have already submitted an application with all of the Essential Officials roles filled, will we need to re-submit the application?

No, the original application is sufficient, however if the Supplementary Regulations have been published and you elect to change or remove the officials, the usual process of notifying competitors via further regulations or a bulletin is required.

For the remainder of this year CAMS will continue to review its regulations for club motor sport to ensure simple rules for simple events. Watch this space!
