Infusion and Rehydration

All drivers should be aware that the 2009 Anti Doping Policy includes prohibitions not only on specified substances (drugs) but the manner in which those drugs may be administered.

In particular, intravenous infusion of fluids during competition is prohibited under the requirements of the “prohibited list” at Article M2.2. The Prohibited List forms an integral part of the Anti Doping Policy and is referenced in the policy.

Drivers who may require an intravenous infusion due to medical emergencies during competition periods may need to seek a retrospective Therapeutic Exemption from ASDMAC.

Generally, intravenous infusion for rehydration purposes will automatically exclude the driver for the remainder of the competition.
