New CAMS Anti Doping Policy
N/A
December 12, 2008
All sports in Australia are required by the Australian Sports Commission to adopt a revised, common Anti-Doping Policy from 1 January 2009.
CAMS has been working closely with the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA) to develop the policy in an attempt to tailor it towards motor sport applications as much as possible.
While the Policy is "WADA compliant” – which means it meets the same criteria as is required for Olympic Games athletes – there are some areas where the policy is particularly appropriate for motor sport. These are areas which refer to the use of substances which are performance-impairing on athletes and when used in motor sport may cause significant additional risks to all participants including drivers, officials and spectators.
These substances include: • Alcohol • Cannabis/ Narcotics • Amphetamines and stimulants • As well as any substance which is considered to be performance enhancing (such as anabolic steroids) or any substance which masks or covers up the actions of other drugs, such as diuretic substances.
All competitors are advised to be aware of the new policy, which will be posted on the CAMS Website around 16 December.
