Safety First Strategy unveiled

July 24, 2008

The CAMS Safety 1st Strategy, which combines all safety related areas and sets a detailed path for motor sport to follow in the future, has been approved by the CAMS Board.

This comprehensive strategy reduces the overlapping of ideas and resources throughout the sport. It will enable a more direct, refined and timely approach to be used in the resolution of issues and review of current processes.

The Safety 1st Strategy is contained in a comprehensive publication which:

• details the manner in which CAMS manages all aspects of its safety environment;

• combines the many facets of safety within motor sport into a single strategy;

• provides a logical approach to the concentration of ideas from various sources; and

• provides for holistic outcomes.

The Safety 1st Strategy emphasises the need for risks to be formally assessed prior to conducting any activity. It enables many factors to be considered, including the current technological environment. Human skill sets and competencies will be a primary consideration in determining control mechanisms before an action is implemented.

The Safety 1st Strategy also provides a useful record of the significant advances which CAMS has made towards a highly transparent and robust duty of care process, on which the sport can rely in the defence of both statutory prosecution and civil liability claims.

A comprehensive Executive Summary is available through the CAMS Website as a PDF download.

A copy of the full strategy document is available upon request from CAMS.
