Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame
The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) has announced the establishment of the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame.
CAMS President Andrew Papadopoulos said: "CAMS has long held the view that there should be a Hall of Fame to give recognition to those who have brought greatness to motor sport in all its many disciplines, over the entire history of the sport in Australia.”
It is proposed that only those Australians who have achieved the highest levels of success in their chosen sport, will be inducted.
CAMS has established a Hall of Fame Committee which comprises respected members of all disciplines within the sport plus experienced journalists with a strong knowledge of motor sport's history and its participants.
"Obviously, in the first year it will not be possible to induct all those worthy of inclusion, so we will be inducting groups of 12 to 15 every year for a number of years, although there may be a larger number in year one,” said Mr Papadopoulos.
The first group of inductees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 2015 CAMS Motor Sport Awards to be held early in 2016
The group will include famous names from motor sport (both four and two wheeled), rallying, off road, drag racing, karting and speedway.
