Craig Baird sealed the championship in race two of three for the weekend. Starting second after race one, Baird was battling for the lead with championship rival Daniel Gaunt when the two came together. Both were forced down the escape road and while Baird recovered to finish 6th, Gaunt could only struggle home in 12th. That result saw Baird seal the 2011 City Index Porsche Carrera Cup Championship.
After taking his maiden Carrera Cup victory in race one, and backing it up with another victory in race two, Ben Barker missed out on a hat-trick for the weekend by crashing out of race three. Michael Patrizi took the chequered flag ahead of Jonny Reid and Steven Richards.
A consistent year saw Craig Baird come into the final round of the championship with a comfortable points buffer over Daniel Gaunt. The pair qualified 3rd and 5th respectively and at the end of race one had each moved up one place, finishing 2nd and 4th. Race two saw them come together whilst battling for the lead and then in the third and final race, separate incidents saw both fail to finish.
Michael Patrizi was the pick of the Elite Class drivers, enjoying outright victory in the final race of the weekend. Another driver who performed well was Nick Foster who, in his first Carrera Cup event, improved at each outing to finish the final race in 4th.
CAMS congratulates Craig Baird on winning the 2011 City Index Porsche Carrera Cup Championship.
