As CAMS closes in on the milestone mark of 10,000 licenced officials in its ranks, those who sign up to become an official are being given the chance to win a very special prize.
Thanks to RallySchool, any new official who successfully joins before 10 August will go in the draw to win a RallySchool Half Day Ultimate Experience, while CAMS Shop vouchers will also be offered as second and third place prizes to new officials.
All existing CAMS licence holders will also go in the draw to win a CAMS Shop voucher valued at $300.
CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca said being an official was a great way to experience motor sport up-close.
“Officials are a vital part of motor sport – they are integral to the safe running of the sport and nobody would be racing without them,” Arocca said.
“They also get the best seat in the house as they perform their tasks at events like the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, Rally Australia or Supercars rounds across the country.
“Of course, it’s not just those big headline events, there are thousands of grassroots events throughout Australia where being an official can be richly rewarding and give you a chance to see some of the best motor sport talent on show.”
The CAMS National Officiating Program facilitates the training and accreditation of all volunteer motor sport officials. New officials are teamed with experienced officials and learn how to do most things on the job and, as officials gain more experience and begin to take on more responsibilities, they will be given the opportunity to upgrade their licence and branch out into other areas of officiating.
Anyone with a general interest in motor sport can become a volunteer official. Minimum age restrictions apply for some roles and activities and there are also supervision requirements for the different grades of officials.
