Neville Day and James Anderson have won the 2018 Clive Dubois Memorial Short Course Mannum after an entertaining two-way battle with Chris Pickert and Andy Maxwell.

With both teams fighting for the lead during the intense seven-heat event, the damage was done in the second heat when Day finished more than one and half minutes ahead of Pickert.

Despite trading heat wins for the remainder of the weekend, Day eventually took out the outright victory, crossing the line two minutes faster than the second placed Pickert.

Finishing more than 20 minutes behind the top-two and 18 minutes ahead of fourth and fifth, Matthew and Shaydon Witmitz claimed a well-deserved third place.

Only five teams were able to complete all seven heats as Peta Guidolin alongside co-drivers Peri & Joe Guidolin took out fourth, while the South Australian Off Road Racing Association (SAORRA) series’ leader Ian Barkla and Kym Rodda rounded out the top five.

It was a weekend of heartbreak for some of the top-end teams as heat one and two winner David Hall and co-drivers Nathan Hall and Dale Bishop failed to make it past the third heat.

Adam Bierl and Nyree Birmingham missed out on the second heat, Ben Erceg and co-drivers Kelly Erceg/Andrew Oliver the last and Lachlan Jackson and Kayelene Crossing’s fourth heat DNF cost them all a potential spot on the podium.

Day’s sensational win in the final round of SAORRA’s multi club series, held by the Adelaide Buggy Club, was his first win of the season, after finishing second twice throughout the year.

The round win puts him in second place in the overall standings, with Barkla’s fifth place sealing the series’ victory. Despite finishing the final round in outright 12th o, Haydn Vanstone leapfrogged an absent Carl Haby to sneak onto the top-three.
