Large crowds will flock to Leyburn in August when the 23rd annual Historic Leyburn Sprints takes over the small Queensland town for two action packed days.
More than 15,000 spectators and 200 drivers competing in historic, classic and performance cars are expected to attend the popular event, which was voted the 2017 CAMS Queensland Motor Sport Event of the Year.
Leyburn’s streets will close for the two-day historic event, as competitors take part in the round-the-houses time trials, as well as a vintage caravan and Show ‘n’ Shine display featuring drivers and cars representing 10 decades of motoring.
The event, popular for its grassroots country atmosphere, is centred around Leyburn’s famous 1863 Royal Hotel and will celebrate the 1949 Australian Grand Prix, which was run just outside the town.
The major highlight of the event will be the raffle prize available, with one lucky fan having the chance win a ride in one of Australia's fastest historic racing cars, a 1968 McLaren M1B.
Adult tickets are available at the gate starting from $20 a day, with children under 14 receive free entry to the event. Camping for spectators is available with bookings not required.
The 23rd Historic Leyburn Sprints takes place on 18-19 August in Leyburn. Gates will be open from 6.30am and racing will start from 8am each day.
