CAMS

CAMS can today confirm it has approved changes to its Superlicence Qualification Criteria, ensuring consistent performers at feeder levels are being adequately rewarded.

The most recent changes will apply to the Super2 Series and the V8 Touring Car Series.

Going forward, the first six drivers in the final classification of the previous year’s Super2 Series will now be eligible to receive a CAMS Superlicence.

The V8 Touring Car Series Superlicence points allocation will increase to seven points for the driver who finishes the year in first place, as well as extending the points allocation through to the driver who finishes in sixth.

The decision also factors in the several Super2 Series competitors already racing with a CAMS Superlicence. Should one or more current licence holders finish in the top six, eligibility for a CAMS Superlicence would also extend up to eighth place only.

Primarily, drivers’ eligibility is based on an accumulation of CAMS Superlicence points during a five year period prior to an application.

CAMS’ Australian Motor Racing Commission (AMRC) put forward the changes after working closely with relevant stakeholders and Series managers, before the CAMS Board approved the changes at its November meeting.

CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca said the changes reflected the changing nature of Championships and Series across Australia.

“We think these alterations will ensure those deserving of a CAMS Superlicence are rewarded for their efforts in motor sport,” Arocca said.

“The AMRC will also review the points classification across all Championships and Series annually to ensure the points adequate reflect the relevant category.

“The AMRC has also told us they are not anticipating any further changes to the Superlicence Qualification Criteria in 2018.”
