Volante Rosso Signs Junior Harvey

Unnamed -3-2

Emerson Harvey, the grandson of Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame inductee John Harvey, will join leading Porsche Carrera Cup squad Volante Rosso as their junior development driver.

Harvey will continue karting in 2018, with Volante Rosso assisting his development as he prepares for his future step up in motor sport. It is an extension of the junior development initiatives, as the squad will also offer up to two tests for current CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship racers.

To be aligned with a leading squad before even making the step up to a car is something Harvey is incredibly grateful of.

“Motor sport is what I want to do as a career – I see this opportunity as a vital step to progress towards my goal,” Harvey said.

“To learn from this new but very experienced team is a once in a life time opportunity.”

Currently the team’s Carrera Cup driver, Josh Hunt will play a pivotal part in guiding Harvey’s transition from karting to circuit racing.

“Making the jump from karts to cars is one of the most difficult phase of a driver’s career,” Hunt said.

“We are excited to be a part of that journey for Emerson and help to make the transition as smooth as possible.”

As part of Harvey’s role, he will be across the team in engineering meetings and data analysis across both test and race days. This will be led by the team’s principal Chris Papadopoulos, who has extensive experience in Formula One as an engineer with the Renault and Lotus Formula 1 teams.

“We have kept an eye on the karting scene for a while and Emerson has impressed us on many levels,” Papadopoulos said.

“There is no doubt he is quick behind the wheel, but he also shows a calm and professional approach to his motor sport and there is no doubt he is extremely passionate and eager to learn

“Of course it’d be great to see Emerson grow into our Carrera Cup program but for now we are focused on his karting and preparing him for making the next step.”

Announced earlier this year, Volante Rosso will select up to two drivers to take part in a test day aboard a modern specification Porsche Carrera Cup Car at end of the season.

“It is fantastic to see more professional outfits willing to take young Australian talent under their wing,” CAMS General Manager of Motor Sport Michael Smith said.

“From a CAMS point of view, driver development is a strong passion of ours and we’re pleased to see new names becoming part of our industry.”

A number of former Australian Formula 4 drivers have graduated to the Porsche platform, including Brenton Grove, Jordan Love and most recently, Jimmy Vernon and Simon Fallon.
