Chris Atkinson is the 2012 Asia Pacific Rally Champion after a second place finish at the China Rally.

Atkinson secured the title, which represents the biggest prize of his motor sport career, at the Chinese event after a strong season behind the wheel of his Skoda rally car.

Commitments in the World Rally Championship meant that Atkinson missed one of the six rounds of the sesaon, however his results were still good enough to see him take out the Championship ahead of Brian Green.

Atkinson won two of the five events that he contested and was extremely proud of his achievments in the Championship.

"It's an awesome feeling to take the APRC title after a great year with the MRF Skoda team," Atkinson said.

"There's a great lineup of drivers from around the world competing in the championship this season so I'm extremely proud to be flying the Aussie flag high for everyone back home.

"It's been a busy last half of the season but thanks to a great team at Race Torque and huge support from Skoda Australia and Brakes Direct we were able to bring our A-game all year and produce the ultimate result.

Atkinson will now head to Europe to contest the final round of the World Rally Championship, the Rally de Espana, from November 8.
