CAMS YOUNG OFFICIALS TEAM SHINE AT THE 2013 V8 SUPERCARS WILSON SECURITY SANDOWN 500!
In 2012 CAMS initiated a program aiming to encourage people between the ages of 16 and 25 to participate in motor sport officiating.
After a successful 2 years of program development almost 200 young men and women nationwide have become brand new CAMS Accredited Officials through their involvement in the CAMS Young Officials Team.
In September another 20 were provided with the opportunity to attend the 2013 V8 Supercars Wilson Security Sandown 500 and be taught by the best officials in the business.
Over the three days of the event the CAMS Young Officials Team rotated through various roles including; Flag marshalling, Track marshalling, Scrutiny & Pit Lane duties.
The Young Officials were also given a tour of Race Control and the Medical Centre to learn about the more specialised roles available.
CAMS Senior Officials were charged with mentoring the fresh faced officials over the weekend and were an invaluable source of information and knowledge.
"The Young Officials are a fantastic addition to the greater officials group and are well supported by all officials." Said Senior Official Terry O'Callaghan.
"It's an important element of the officiating experience that the volunteer community continue to embrace and support this program."
The CAMS Young Officials Team is scheduled for a number of remaining V8 Supercars Rounds in 2013 around Australia so contact your local SCDO on 1300 883 959 to find out more and how to get involved!
